Unwanted Monday

Hey all,
gee . . . what a stink I have caused with my little teaser!

Let me go ahead and announce it now-the BIG decision-I am doing long runs on Saturday instead of doing 50 and 60 mile bike rides. I am 10 weeks away from my marathon and I had to choose which I needed most. My schedule is crazy and I cannot get in 4 or 5 runs AND 2 bike rides a week . . . It is just too tough for me. I am committed to my marathons and I hope that I have not waited too long to make this decision. Some of you are relieved and some of you are saying "WHAT?".

As far as the Unwanted Monday title . . . isn't that a redundant statement? all Mondays are unwanted. That means another 4 days of work. YUCK. Yes, all capitals. YUCK.

Somehow during the weekend I managed to mess up my back (slightly). I went to the Chiropractor today and he said I should cool it for a couple of days. No problem considering the pain I'm feeling. I will gladly take a day or two off.

I ran for 1 hour and 50 minutes Saturday morning. I got a late start . . . not a smart boy. I finished up around 10:45 - 11:00. According to the thermometer it was in the low 90s. Not good weather for a long run. Susan joined me since she is starting to train for Mercedes Marathon here in town in Feb. and she ran for an hour. Then she jumped on her bike and rode 50 minutes while I ran. That is the first time in a long time that I actually got sick of running. I was thirsty but the water was just making my stomach cramp. Classic Catch 22. I will have to start my long runs earlier.

I am wondering if my brother-in-law, Cary, who lives in Portland is training okay. He is supposed to run with me Oct 1 . . . we'll have to see.

So, no run tonight. Might try tomorrow night. Hope all is well with everyone.

Sorry to hear that you got sick AND hurt your back. How did you hurt your back? Lifting too many margaritas:)

Hope you get better soon and can start your Saturday morning long runs. Once I got myself accustom to doing all my running in the early morning hours I stopped worryig about getting a late start. My body tells me to get up and get outside before 5 AM. I don't have a clue if it will be telling me the same thing when the temperature is 40 instead of 90, but it's working now.

Best of luck with your training.
